  White crystals with a sweet taste, soluble in water, insoluble in ethanol, etc.
The drinking water grade is white, in the form of white flakes, granules or blocks.
Industrial products are grayish-white in color, in the form of flakes, granules or blocks. They have a light green tint due to the presence of low-iron salts and a yellow surface due to the oxidation of low-iron salts. The crude product is a grayish-white fine-grained porous substance.
Aluminium sulfate is highly soluble in water. It cannot dissolve in pure sulfuric acid (only coexists), and in sulfuric acid solution, it dissolves together with sulfuric acid in water. Therefore, the solubility of aluminium sulfate in sulfuric acid is the same as its solubility in water.

Applications:
 
  1) Precipitating agent: for rosin gum, wax emulsion and other sizing agents in the papermaking industry;
  2) Flocculant: in water treatment.
  3) Retention agent: in foam fire extinguishers, a raw material for manufacturing alum and aluminum white, a decolorizing and deodorizing agent in petroleum, and a raw material for certain drugs, etc.
  4) Raw materials: produce artificial gemstones and ammonium alum.
  5) Papermaking: Approximately 50% of the total output of aluminium sulfate is used in papermaking. 
  6) Flocculant: Its secondary application is as a flocculant in the treatment of drinking water, industrial water and industrial wastewater, accounting for about 40% of the total output of aluminium sulfate.
  When aluminium sulfate is added to this type of water, gel-like aluminium hydroxide flocs that can adsorb and precipitate bacteria, colloids and other suspended substances can be formed.
  When used in drinking water treatment, it can control the color and taste of water.

  The aluminium hydroxide method is suitable for the production of high-purity aluminium sulfate, but the cost is relatively high.
  Both methods have their own advantages, and the specific choice depends on the production requirements and application fields.
  The alumina content of industrial-grade aluminium sulfate is generally 15.7% to 16.5%, while that of high-purity products can approach 17%. However, the actual production is restricted by technology and cannot reach 17%.
