Soda ash generally refers to sodium carbonate (Na2CO3), molecular weight 105.99. The purity of the chemical is more than 99.5% (mass fraction), also known as soda ash, but the classification belongs to salt, not alkali. Also known as soda or alkali ash in international trade. It is an important organic chemical raw material, mainly used in plate glass, glass products and ceramic glaze production. It is also widely used in domestic washing, acid neutralization and food processing.

Dense soda ash can be produced by the natural soda process, using natural soda ash as raw material and through evaporation or carbonization to produce heavy soda ash, or it can be obtained from light soda ash through the hydration method or extrusion method. It can also be prepared by the ammonia-alkali method and the combined alkali method.
