Sodium octadecanoate is an organic compound with the chemical formula C17H35COONa. It is a white oily powder with a greasy feel and a fatty odor. It is readily soluble in hot water or hot alcohol. The aqueous solution is alkaline due to hydrolysis, while the alcohol solution is neutral. It is produced by the interaction of octadecanoic acid and sodium hydroxide. It is used in toothpaste manufacturing and also serves as a water repellent and plastic stabilizer.

1.It is used in the manufacture of toothpaste and also serves as a water repellent and plastic stabilizer. It is used as a stabilizer for metal heat treatment and plastics, in the manufacture of soap detergents, and as an emulsifier in cosmetics.
2. It is mainly used for manufacturing soap-based detergents. It is used as both an active agent and an excipient in block soaps, as well as an emulsifier for cosmetics and O/W type products.

Detergent: Used to control foam during the rinsing process. Sodium stearate is the main component of soap.

Emulsifiers or dispersants: used for emulsification of polymers and as antioxidants, etc.

Corrosion inhibitors: Used in polyethylene packaging films to endow them with protective properties, etc.

Cosmetics: Shaving gel, transparent adhesive, etc

Adhesive: Used as natural glue for pasting paper pieces.
